◦ The Brief
“A street-facing elevation that had to make a lasting first impression — while giving the family inside somewhere to live unobserved.”
◦ The Approach
Girivan was envisioned as a contemporary residence built on clean lines and balanced proportions. Privacy is resolved in the massing rather than added afterwards: layered volumes, cantilevered forms, and carefully positioned projections, screens, and recessed balconies let large glazed openings pull light deep inside without opening the house to the street. Depth and shadow come from those architectural moves themselves, not from applied ornament — which is what keeps the geometry bold without turning decorative. Stone, textured plaster, and wood-finish HPL warm the composition against aluminium and glass, with architectural lighting and soft landscape settling the house into its plot. Inside, gilded craft and painterly detail give each room its own voice within one continuous gesture.
